Pipe Line Tag Creation

This dialog is a variation of the Properties dialog which displays the Tag Number and component Property information on the Pipeline being placed.

The following dialog displays when one of the following pipeline selections is made from the Piping gallery.

  • Major Pipeline
  • Minor Pipeline
  • Existing Major Pipeline
  • Existing Minor Pipeline
  • Tracing Pipeline
  • Solid Fuel Pipeline
  • Steam Pipeline
  • Vent/Drain Pipeline

This dialog is a variation of the Properties dialog which displays the Tag Number and component Property information on the Pipeline being placed. Pipelines are functional and design definitions which have no physical component properties assigned to them. So when a Pipeline is created, a Pipe Run is also placed and automatically associated with the line.

SettingDescription
All/Piping Tabs The tabbed section on the left lists the Tag Number ( Business Key) and Class of the pipeline. Since pipelines are basically process line definitions, they have no physical component associated with them. As a result, a Pipe Run is created at the same time as the pipeline which represents the actual pipe component in the drawing. The information displayed in the Properties tab is dependent on whether the Pipeline or Pipe Run is selected in this tab.
Name Displays the P&ID tag number formed from tag code definitions.
Browse The Browse button displays the Find Component dialog allowing you to search through a list of existing components. If you select an existing component tag number, the new component being placed will inherit the component properties from the existing component. You can opt to rename the tag number for the new component and still retain the inherited properties.
Reset Resets the tag to its original number.
Tag Information

The Plant related properties, ( Plant Area, Service) can be defined by selecting a value from the drop down list next to them.

Select a Specification by clicking in the field to display a Browse button. Click to display a list of specifications to choose from.

Number : User input field for data to be placed into the database NUM field. Selecting the down arrow within this field will launch a control to select the next available number from the database tag register or increment the current number by the amount shown in the Increment By field. The Maximum button sets the tag number one number above the current highest number used. (For example, if the current highest tag number used is P-104, then the Maximum tag number will be set to P-105.)

Properties Tab

The properties which display in this tab are dependent on whether the Pipeline or PipeRun is selected in the All tab:

Pipelines: Pipelines are process line definitions which have no physical component properties assigned to them. The Pipeline definitions deal with the operating and design conditions associated with the process, such as material weights, operating temperatures, design pressures, etc.

Pipe Runs: Represents the actual pipe component in the drawing. The component properties define the physical aspects of the actual pipe component such as weight, thickness, diameter, etc.

Plant Tab

In the Plant tab, the Plant related properties, ( Plant Area, Service, System and Unit) can be defined by selecting a value from the drop down list next to them.

Note: New values for the Plant properties can be defined in the PID Document dialog which is accessed by selecting Settings > Drawing from the menu system.
